After high school, at the age of 16, I started hairdressing training. So at the moment I have been active in the profession for almost 20 years, not counting all the years in which I provided my Barbies with the most 'beautiful' looks. Beautiful is in quotes because I had to adjust my opinion of how beautiful these looks were, later in life. The looks were certainly creative, but I also understand why my mother was not charmed by my cutting and coloring skills. This could of course be due to the fact that Barbies had very nice and long hair or that I used my mother's mascara to dye the hair of the dolls - luckily colored mascaras were in at the time, so my offer was already a bit wider than just natural shades. Oops, sorry mom!

Over the years I have specialized in colors and especially coloring 'as natural' as possible using unnatural colors. I also specialized in 'future-oriented' colors, creating colors with colors, that's my greatest passion.

And to think that I thought the coloring part was the stupidest thing during my education and didn't understand it, afterwards there was not a single part of the education that I really liked. I do remember that my mentor once asked me if I thought it would be fun to go to a secondary school to tell the students about the hairdressing course. I thought that was great, probably that day the seed was already planted for one of my dreams for the future: teaching / training.

At the moment I am very satisfied with the state of affairs. Every day I do what I love to do most, without stress, with lovely customers and in my beautiful salon. My own salon at home was always my dream and I'm living it now. In the future, as I wrote before, I would like to train other hairdressers. I would like to teach, inspire and motivate them to make room for their passion, just like I did myself. That seed that was planted at that time is ready to be harvested.

Participating in the biggest global hairdressing competition: The One Shot Hair Awards is also one of my greatest passions. It is a great wish of mine to have such an award in my salon. The first year I was the proud owner of two nominations and the second year I entered one of my submitted shots ended up in the top 5 (out of 11,063 submissions!). I am very proud of this and especially very grateful for it.

It is important to me that I can continue to do my work the way I want to and the way it feels right to me. I often call it working intuitively. When a project doesn't feel quite right, I put it aside for a while until I know how it fits me well. That's how I do this in the salon. Creating by feeling, looking at what is possible, customizing and working together with my client towards our final goal. I really enjoy involving my clients in the creative process, and so do they, I've been told…

KYONE is a brand I feel at home with and again, I work and live by feeling. When a brand is as thoughtful and committed as KYONE, that alone is a huge plus for me. If this same brand also has the most fantastic tools in its collection, then it seems as if I have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. KYONE's tools are simple, beautiful, do what they are supposed to do and support me exactly where I need them when creating my looks. You may not need good tools to be a good hairdresser, but KYONE's tools make it a lot easier and more fun for me.
